The point at issue consists in recognising the intervention of consciousness in the observation of molecular phenomena. For some scientists the matter ends there, in the change of the phenomenon generated by the particular observer. But for others, on considering that, if the phenomenon occurs in everything observed, \u201cthere must be\u201d a consciousness that transcends particular observers, that is, a Consciousness that underlies Nature and precedes matter.<\/span><\/p>\n                    <p><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\">The consequences of this theory, set forth as a scientific demonstration, are of great magnitude, for it may lead to another way of perceiving, of thinking and, perhaps, of feeling. For a start, the materialist assumptions that scientific thought itself had created and upheld for centuries would be refuted, rendered obsolete and scientifically shown to be mistaken. For this labour, which we know to have been most meticulous and painstaking, our scientists are certainly to be congratulated.<\/span><\/p>\n                    <p><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\">From the philosophical-spiritual point of view, we must celebrate that the sciences have found a coincident point of convergence, for after Romanticism, which was the swan song of Western thought, we have seen nothing but nihilistic or materialist ideologies which, alienated from spiritual reality, have contributed to general bewilderment. I have dealt with the origins of this alienation and its development across different periods and places (which I cannot go into here) in my <\/span>\n                      <em\n                        style=\"font-size: 116%;\">philosophy of history<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\"> and in the psychic process that has generated it, in my <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 116%;\">Psychosophy<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n                    <p><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\">In reality, we find the underlying nature and preeminence of Consciousness or Spirit in Nature, with countless variants, since the dawn of humanity, in all mythologies and religions, and, philosophically upheld, in Western Idealism for some 2,500 years, and in the East for a little longer still (see <\/span>\n                      <em\n                        style=\"font-size: 116%;\">Parallel Civilisations<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 116%;\">), and it continues to be upheld, within a philosophical framework, by contemporary authors, such as the one responsible for this article. Strictly speaking, what scientists have found is a reality that transcends time and space, that is to say, metaphysics, an old discipline that has been preoccupying philosophers for 24 centuries.
